Don’t discount sleep disturbance for children with atopic dermatitis
Key clinical point: Children with atopic dermatitis experience significantly worse sleep quality than that of children without AD.
Major finding: Children with active AD were 50% more likely to experience sleep disturbances, compared with those without AD.
Study details: The data come from a longitudinal cohort study of 13,988 children followed for a median of 11 years.
Disclosures: The study was funded primarily by a grant from the National Eczema Association. Ms. Ramirez disclosed a grant from the National Institutes of Health. Two other investigators also received grants, one from NIH and the other from Wellcome Senior Clinical Fellowship in Science. One coauthor reported receiving multiple grants, as well as paid consulting for TARGET PharmaSolutions, a company developing a prospective atopic dermatitis registry.
