Question 1 of 5

Which of the following statements is true about spontaneous abortion?

Patients prefer the term “spontaneous abortion” over “early pregnancy loss” or “miscarriage.”

The incidence of early pregnancy loss (EPL; defined as first-trimester pregnancy loss) is as high as 10%, decreasing to 5% when considering only losses occurring in clinically recognized pregnancies.

Risk factors include increasing maternal age, prior pregnancy loss, medical conditions, and medications, but not substance use or environmental exposures.

Prenatal vitamins and progesterone have not been shown to be effective in reducing the risk of EPL.
